Ok, so here we go again. It looks like we will once again be voting between Joe Biden and Donald Trump for President! I am pretty certain a lot of people would prefer to see two completely different candidates when they vote in November 2024, but we got what we got!
Back in 2016, when Trump beat out Hillary Clinton, there were many different reasons for his victory. One in particular was known as the “Silent Majority.” Many people and news outlets had the impression that Clinton would be the winner, especially due to the pre-election polling results, but the silent majority sat there quiet, choosing not to express their opinions publicly in fear of being ridiculed and criticized for even thinking about voting for Trump. This silence among many Trump voters gave the impression that everybody was in agreement that Clinton was the better pick for President and it would be an automatic victory for her. Obviously, the results of the election showed this assumption to be incorrect. So, fast forward to the 2024 presidential election. Will there be another silent majority to carry Trump to a victory? Possibly, but not likely the same type of silent majority from 2016. Over the years, the “quiet” Trump and anti-Biden voters have more openly expressed their views about the overall disappointment of the things that are happening in this country, and are less afraid to share their political views as they were back in 2016. With that said, who will be the silent majority in 2024? Well, the silent majority may actually consist of Democrat and Independent voters this time. Many of the people that voted for Biden back in 2020 are hurting from inflation. Just about every single American has been hurt significantly in the wallet during the past couple of years. Biden may not be 100% responsible for this, but nevertheless, it has happened under his watch, hence, he will take a bulk of the blame, fair or unfair. So, do all of the people that voted for Biden in 2020 plan on voting for Biden again in 2024? Many of the anti-Trump voters are not likely to vote for Trump in 2024, but maybe they will not vote for anybody else, either. Trump’s behaviors and legal woes certainly are a huge turn-off for many, even people that vote for him, but the topic of inflation is extremely hard to ignore for so many people today. People are struggling to buy food at the grocery store and feed their families as well as pay for all the other expenses that have gone up and up and up. Life, for many, has become more difficult since the election of 2020. It is entirely possible that inflation may cause some Biden voters to stay more quiet than usual this year. They are disappointed in the rising costs, so they don’t want to boast about Biden. They are also disgusted by Trump, so they certainly don’t want to boast about him, either, although there is a desire for change and Trump is basically the only option for change since there will be no other candidates on the ticket that stand a chance of winning. So, will there be a new silent majority among former Biden voters that stay quiet and remain home during election day? A non-vote from a former Biden voter is basically a vote for Trump. We will see…
