Yes, it’s that time of year, folks! The year has ended, which means many sports fans saw their fantasy football seasons come to an end. Each fantasy football league has one very proud champion, but the remaining league members are left feeling full of disgust, regret, and frustration. Unfortunately, many fantasy footballers have a sob story that they feel is absolutely necessary to share with every other sports fan that they know. Heck, they will sometimes even share their fantasy football woes to people who know nothing about sports, much less fantasy sports!
So, if you are one of those sad league members that is very eager to share your story with us, please make sure it is something original! I have been playing fantasy football for the past 30+ years, so I feel that I have seen just about everything. Unfortunately, I have been a “victim” of just about every bad-luck scenario in fantasy football during this time. The following is a list of unfortunate circumstances that myself and others have went through in fantasy football games. If your sob story is on this list, then please don’t share it with the rest of us. We’ve all heard it before! -My starting quarterback was injured during the 1st Quarter of the game! He never returned to the game and I was stuck with a big fat “0” for a position that is usually guaranteed at least 15 points! -One of my starters was literally a last-second scratch from the starting lineup and spent the entire game on the sidelines in jeans and a t-shirt! By the time I found out he was inactive, the game had already started, so I could not swap him out for another player. Thanks for nothing! My opponent had the luckiest week of his entire life! His starting running back had the best game of his entire career! Normally, he averages about 80 yards a game, and never rushes for more than 1 touchdown. Against me, however, his running back ran for 195 yards and scored 3 touchdowns! -I lost my matchup because my kicker missed a chip shot field goal! What kind of NFL kicker misses a 28 yard field goal? I lost my matchup by 1 point because of that foolish, good-for-nothing kicker! -I lost my weekly matchup because I had the bad luck of playing the only team that scored more points than I did. The other 10 teams in the league all scored less than me. -I didn’t make the playoffs despite scoring the 2nd most points for the season! I kept playing teams that had their best weeks against me! Why me?? -My quarterback should have scored at least 15 more points in my matchup, but his incompetent wide receivers dropped TWO wide open touchdown passes! On top of that, one of these drops bounced off the receiver’s hands and ended up being intercepted by the defense. So instead of scoring about 15 points for these two plays, I ended up with negative 2! -I got burned by game scripts! Both my starting wide receivers were on teams that were blowing out their opponents this week, so they stopped throwing the ball early in the 3rd quarter! They ran the ball for the remainder of the game and eventually pulled all the starters. If even one of those games was more competitive, I would have likely had at least 6 or 7 more points from one of my receivers! -I got robbed of a touchdown! My running back clearly reached the football across the goal line before he was down, but the blind referees said he was short! It was clearly evident on the replay screens that the referees were wrong, however, the team was already out of challenges, so they had to suck it up! The team passed the ball to a different player on the following play! -My bench players scored more points than my starters! I would have won my matchup if I didn’t switch out my tight ends at the last minute! -Last, but certainly not least, is arguably the worst luck of all-time in fantasy football. This came on Monday, January 2, 2023, during which time the Buffalo Bills played against the Cincinnati Bengals. This was a HUGE game for fantasy football, as it was during the championship week for many fantasy leagues. This game was filled with fantasy studs, including Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Joe Mixon, Jamar Chase, and Stefon Diggs! Many players only needed a small amount of points to claim the championship that night, but, as you likely recall, Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field early in the game and went into cardiac arrest. THANKFULLY, he was able to make a full recovery, but that game was ultimately cancelled and it was never resumed. All statistics were erased for that game and the game was never rescheduled. If you had a player on one of those teams, you got ZERO points for all of them that week! With that said, Damar’s incident prevented many teams from winning their fantasy football championships that night. In some cases, people lost out on winning thousands of dollars. Obviously, Damar’s health was more important, but other people in this country were mentally and emotionally injured from extreme fantasy-football-heartbreak!
